Tauranga Civic Choir: Etiquette and rules

MEMBERSHIP
This depends on:
  • Acceptance by Musical Director
  • Payment of annual subscription
  • Satisfactory attendance at rehearsals
  • Abiding by the Choir Constitution

ATTENDANCE
  • The choir rehearses on a Monday evening.
  • Please initial the attendance sheet when you arrive.
  • If you are going to be absent from any rehearsal, please notify the Rolls Monitor by text, email or phone.
  • If you need to miss more than 2 consecutive rehearsals, please fill in a leave form and give to the Rolls Monitor.
  • You must advise the Musical Director at the start of a rehearsal period if you are unable to sing in a concert.
  • You must attend the final 2 rehearsals for any concert. See the Musical Director if necessary.
  • Unexplained absence for three or more weeks could be treated as a resignation from the choir

MUSIC
  • When issued to you, its care is your responsibility.
  • If lost or damaged you will need to pay for it.
  • Any markings should only be made with a 2B pencil and should be erased before returning your music.
  • If you have to withdraw from a concert, please return music immediately to the librarian.

REHEARSAL ETIQUETTE
  • Learn your music as quickly as possible; you will be expected to do some homework.
  • Attend sectional rehearsals when arranged.
  • Be punctual – we start at 7.30pm.
  • Watch, listen and record instructions with only a 2B pencil.
  • Refrain from talking during rehearsals.
  • Seek extra help if required.
 
 
UNIFORM FOR WOMEN
  • Black shoes with closed in heels and toes.
  • Black hosiery – no bare skin around the ankles.
  • Black full length dress trousers (not tight fitting).
  • Black top - sleeves can vary between 3/4 length and full length; short sleeves, cap sleeves and sleeveless tops are not acceptable. The material must be black, but may include self-pattern or dense lace.
  • Jewellery: studs, or small hoop earrings only - no necklaces
  • Scarves are issued as we assemble for a concert and are to be tied in a simple manner half way down. They are the property of the Tauranga Civic Choir, and are collected directly after the concert for laundering.
 
UNIFORM FOR MEN
  • Black shoes.
  • Black socks.
  • Black trousers.
  • Shirt (to be purchased from the Uniform Co-ordinator).
  • Bow tie – see uniform co-ordinator.
 
PERFORMANCE ETIQUETTE
There are requirements to be adhered to at performances, including:
  • Watch the conductor.
  • Keep still when not singing.
  • Don’t turn pages during solo performances.
  • Stand and sit quietly.
  • Don’t talk.
 
You will be advised of any other requirements prior to a performance.
